Because the images only tell part of the story...This exquisite, handcrafted chess board was crafted by skilled craftsmen in a workshop that is a converted barn on a family farm in Vermont. This masterpiece is crafted from native Vermont hardwoods of Solid Black Walnut and Curly Maple making each board one-of-a-kind made one-at-a-time. This board is a gallery-worthy piece of art with an American made sturdiness that will support generations of chess games. The unique design features individually mitered squares measuring 2" x 2" that are raised yielding a delightful playing surface for the beautifully crafted Kari wood Jacques chess pieces that are weighted and have been polished by hand. Important to the integrity of the board, the playing surface is solid wood and the entire board is wrapped in a frame of hardwood approximately 2" wide and 1 1/4" thick. Corners are mitered. Nothing short of a family treasure.
